As with many of our domestic clients, when Mrs S saw TactTiles in a friend’s garage, she was inspired to resurface her own double garage in Hove, East Sussex.

Jackie Eskdale contacted Tact for advice on creating a practical and economical play area for her small son Ben. 

After some discussion she decided to remove the grass from an area of her garden and level the surface.  She then applied a layer of sand and fine aggregate which she stamped down hard, using a machine from a local hire centre.  A layer of geotextile purchased from the local garden centre was then laid on top and pegged down.  Finally Piazza TactTiles were laid on the top. 

‘Laying the tiles was so easy and good fun’ Jackie told Tact, and she was so delighted with the result that she sent over some pictures of Ben in his new play area.  ‘The surface is fine to play on for me and my son,’ said Jackie, ‘we were rolling around on the tiles – I couldn’t do that on a hard patio or on damp grass.’

Eveline Makins was looking for a suitable surface to cover the rough concrete around her outdoor swimming pool when she found the Tact website.  Tact’s team of experts suggested Piazza tiles for the project.

The pool is a curvaceous kidney shape with steps leading down from the patio to the poolside.  From the range of colours available, Mrs Makins chose ‘Sand’, which has created a clean, smart and contemporary look and blends nicely with the surrounding greenery of her garden. The Tact team applied a flexible edging around the curving poolside to create a streamlined finish.

Another satisfied customer, ‘We are very pleased with our pool surround.  It has smartened the whole area up and made it safe for the children.’ Mrs Makins commented.

Mr and Mrs Gaston wanted to create a Mediterranean feel to their pool and patio area, as they felt the paved surface was rather dull. 

TactTiles Pedestrian in light blue dramatically brightened their pool side and Piazza in Stone Grey lent a clean, light look to the patio. 

The Tact team carried out the work over a weekend and the Gastons are delighted with the transformation.

“We’re about to retire so we’ll be spending a lot more time out here,” said Mrs Gaston.  “The colours make it feel sunny and welcoming, and the tiles stay clean very easily. We love it!” 

Walkways and Passages

When the Mardell’s roofed over the area between her house and the garage, they were looking for a floor surface which would remain clean and dry – especially as the children would often dash out to the garage in their socks!

TactTiles turned out to be the ideal solution, allowing any rain to drain away and dry off quickly.  The passage way also goes a long way towards keeping wet and dirt from being tramped into the house.  When the Mardells decided to build a playroom in the garden for the boys, the area of TactTiles were extended quite easily.  The tiles were even lifted and re-laid over a disabled access ramp to the back door.

‘TactTiles have been a really smart and practical solution for this awkward area’ said Mrs Mardell ‘and I am so pleased that we were able to install the disabled ramp with no problem at all.’

The Pendersbys have a beautiful garden in which they like to spend as much time as possible.  However, they find that there are many days when the grass is too cold and damp for comfort.

Alan Pendersby was concerned that decking would be too slippery and that patio stones would discourage bare feet.  On discovering foot-friendly floor tiles from Tact, he decided he’d found the perfect solution.

The family transformed the patio and an area of the garden used for barbeques over a single weekend, using Piazza TactTiles in a terracotta colour.

“I couldn’t believe how quick and easy it was,” says Alan.  “The tiles just click together for a really good finish.  I’m really pleased with it.”

The Pendersbys now have an outdoor surface that is attractive, foot-friendly, hardwearing and waterproof.

TactTiles paves the way

DIY enthusiast Trevor Kayes felt his patio was in dire need of an overhaul. Despite being structurally sound, it was losing colour, difficult to clean and had started to look dated.

Tact supplied Trevor with 22m² of Piazza TactTiles – enough to completely resurface his standard-sized patio.

“I selected TactTiles because they are easy to clean, permit drainage and can be simply and quickly laid, without the expense, time and mess involved in replacing the concrete slabs,” says Trevor. “It was also the quickest option available.”

He chose to lay the tiles himself, and managed to easily complete the task in a leisurely day-and-a-half, which included cutting the tiles to fit the profile of the wall.

“It looks fantastic and the pattern really enhances the overall finish,” Trevor enthuses. “Muddy marks from the garden are easily removed with a damp mop and rain drains away fast. We are looking forward to using it in the summer evenings.”

Trevor’s patio is now ideal for use all year round, with an attractive, hardwearing and waterproof surface.

As an enthusiastic convert to TactTiles, Mrs Gascoigne-Pees floored her new leisure room with her own starburst design using Piazza tiles.

Mrs Gascoigne–Pees first tried out the Piazza tiles in her solar dome, and she was so pleased with the result that she decided new leisure room area should follow suit.

Tact laid the floor before in time for a special birthday party and before the rest of the building was completed.

Once the building was completed, Mr and Mrs Gascoigne-Pees invited Tact’s owners around to see the finished design.  The whole room is light and airy and with the pool and gym equipment is the ideal place to work out and relax.

“I’m delighted,” says Mrs Gascoigne-Pees, “and I never imagined I’d have my own designer floor.  It makes it so much more special.”

With an abundance of glowing testimonials, and a garden room in dire need of flooring, John and Pippa Highnam set to properly test the waters with their own specific flooring requirements.

The ‘Piazza’ TactTile was installed in this versatile and multifunctional space with also provides a passageway between cottage side entrance, that leads through to the workshop and garden.  One of the key factors for this surface choice was down to the level of traffic, i.e., wheelbarrows, wet dogs, guests, etc.  The chosen solution needed to be clean and smart, with the ability to deal with spills and the frequent water deluge from their enthusiastic swimming hounds!

During the summer, the family are keen to get full use of their garden room for meals and a little early evening basking in the fading evening sunlight.  As with all TactTiles, their UV resistant properties add another attractive element, alongside their impressive durability records; a fifteen to twenty year lifespan.

Mr Thompson had problems with his garage floor.  Living by the sea, the garage gets more than its fair share of wind and rain.  Water was blowing under the door and despite installing a rubber ramp to seal the bottom of the door, it still managed to creep under making a wet and slippery floor.

After discussing the problems with Tact, Mr Thompson decided to install Piazza tiles in Stone Grey.  The raised surface of the tiles would allow any water to dry out naturally underneath and the family would no longer have to walk through puddles.

Mr Thompson was so pleased with the result he sent us these photographs and these comments:

Mr and Mrs Lyne from Burnham were looking for a surface for a balcony area which was over the flat roof of their garage.  The roof was finished with a traditional tarred felt and chippings, so they needed a surface which could be easily laid and which would not damage the felt in use.

They selected Tact’s new Piazza tile which has a series of closely spaced supports underneath to spread the load over the felt.  The tiles are lightweight and allow rainwater to drain freely away through the holes in the surface.

Mr Lyne fitted the tiles one afternoon whilst Mrs Lyne was out.  When she came back she called the Tact office in great excitement.  ‘I knew the tiles would look good’ she said ‘but I just had to call and tell you, they are absolutely stunning.  I’m thrilled to bits!’

The Sand Piazza tiles complement their brickwork perfectly and the Lyne’s plan to get a lot more use out of their balcony now that it has such a smart new surface.

Toddlers’ Tiles Triumph              Return to Garden Play

Mr and Mrs Lacey wanted a safe and practical play area for their two small children. The uneven back yard of their Victorian terraced house in Liverpool meant the little Laceys were unable to let their hair down quite as much as they’d like.

The family wanted a solution that was creative and fun for the children as well as safe and practical.  Tact helped to create a colourful design using TactTiles Pedestrian and then Mr Lacey laid the tiles himself. 

The tiles were an immediate success.  The children love their new play area and use the different colours to make up new games, while the Lacey parents are enjoying one or two unexpected benefits of their own.

“I was amazed at how simple it was to fit,” said Mr Lacey.  “All I did was follow the design and the tiles clipped together really easily.  The children are chuffed to bits to have their very own designer space that they can run around in so safely.  Even the wife’s got a bonus – the new floor means the kids don’t walk dirt into the house!”

Trevor Kayes discovered DIY needn’t be frustrating after deciding to resurface his garage floor earlier this year, following several years of problems with damp.

He had tried repainting the floor, but found the surface quickly became flaky and dust-covered, creating an unsuitable environment in which to store his car, tools and other day-to-day equipment.

Tact supplied Trevor with around 160ft² of Pedestrian TactTiles – enough to completely resurface his standard-sized garage.

He chose to lay the tiles himself, and easily managed to complete the task in less than a day, starting at around 10.30am and finishing before tea.

“I found TactTiles to be very easy to lay and in fact rather therapeutic,” Trevor commented. “I was almost disappointed that I finished so quickly! However, I’m absolutely delighted with the results.”

Trevor’s garage now provides the ideal storage solution. Not only does the floor prevent dust, it also has an anti-slip surface and drains away moisture.

Trevor is now looking forward to some more therapeutic DIY and has since ordered TactTiles for his new patio.
